"Why do you think people need to spend time alone?"
A curious friend asked this question while we were enjoying a cup of coffee. His query stimulated my curiosity as well.
I somewhat struggled to grope for relevant answers, not only to satisfy my friend's thirst for knowledge but also to satisfy my own.
Finally, I said:
"People need to reflect on things that happen everyday -- how they feel, act, or respond to certain situations and how their emotions and behaviors affect others. They have to think whether they have made others feel better through their remarks (innocent or not) and actions (impulsive or intentional).
They need to focus on their priorities, plans, and relationships. They need to have time to cherish these private thoughts that may be harbingers for solutions and creativity."
I wasn't sure if my friend got my point because he changed the topic of our conversation to basketball, but I was pretty sure that I satisfied my own.
