A few times, we decided not to accept the sales pitch. But each time we said no, the rep was quick to give more bonuses.
Well, eventually we said "yes". Initially, the idea seemed good. But after a few days of serious discussion and profound thought, the "yes" was not ideal. Unnecessary debt and deviation from our financial priorities could have been the sure result.
I was glad that we could still cancel it. So we did.
What's the lesson of this story?
1. Always stick with your priorities.
2. Focus on what you need and not on what you want.
3. Examine the short-term and long-term results of your decisions.
4. Don't be shy or feel guilty to say no. Be assertive.
5. Understand that sales reps have only one goal - to convince you to buy or use their services or products to fulfill their own obligations and not yours.
6. Follow your gut. If you don't feel good initially, be prepared to walk away.
7. Don't be lured by bonuses specially if the primary product is not something you really want.
